Aunty Lani’s Travel Tips: Start with Aloha the Moment Your Plane Lands

Aloha, my dear friends! It’s Aunty Lani here, ready to share a little island wisdom with you. You see, every day I watch visitors arrive on our beautiful island of Kaua‘i, and oh boy, I can always tell who is coming with aloha and who might  have left their manners back home.

Now, let me ask you something-what’s the rush? I know for a fact that when you land on Kaua‘i, you are not racing to catch a connecting flight. This is it! Your final destination in paradise!  So why, my dear visitor, do I see some of you jumping up the moment the plane stops trying to rush from the back of the plane all the way to the front.  Some push past others like you’re in a  competition? Slow down. Breathe. The island isn’t going anywhere, and neither is your luggage.

Here in Hawai‘i, we do things with aloha. That means we move with kindness, patience and respect. When the plane lands, we exit row by row, front to back – not a free-for-all scramble to the front. This little sign of courtesy, allowing those in front of us go first, sets the tone of aloha for the whole day. It makes for a more smooth and calm experience for everyone. Trust me dears, starting your trip with this small act of aloha will set the tone for a truly magical visit.

Kaua‘i isn’t about rushing. It’s about feeling the essence of the place, embracing the slow and easy rhythm and respecting the people and the place that welcome you. So, when you step off that plane, do it with aloha. You’re on island time now, my friends. As my uncles used to say…time to HANG LOOSE.

Mahalo for listening and welcome to paradise!
