Have you heard that The Kaua‘i Bus got an upgrade? Not only is the fleet currently being replaced with brand new, upgraded buses, but there’s also a new digital payment system. It’s fantastic and user-friendly from end to end. This means that there are now four mechanisms with which you can pay to ride the bus:
- On-board cash payment (change not available)
- Visit select in-person locations
- (BRAND NEW) Tap your credit card at the onboard ticket validator to pay a single ride fare
- (BRAND NEW) Download the “Kaua‘i Bus eTickets” app from the App Store or Google Play and purchase a single ride ticket, day pass, monthly pass, and/or annual pass
Once the app is installed, users have the option to store funds for future use and purchase a single ticket or multiple tickets for both the Mainline and Shuttle routes. This is convenient if you are traveling with others or planning to ride the bus multiple times. There are differing price points for ADA, adults, seniors, and youth, as well as paratransit service bus fare upon reservation.
Tickets can be purchased by credit card or Apple Pay and should be activated when ready to board. If plans change, a 5-minute refund window is available through the app, and you have 180 days to use the ticket if you miss the refund window.
Another great feature is the ability to track each bus in live-time and access bus schedules. However, should you prefer a printed copy, you can find them available behind the bus driver.
